Austin Cary Site Visit Updates…

You can visit the Austin Cary Forest Learning Center Monday-Friday 8-5.  However, the Learning Center is still under construction.  Please understand that unless you clear the timing of your visit with the Public Art Manager, ocaraballo@arts.ufl.edu, there is the possibility that you may not get access inside of the building.  You may visit the property any time it is open.

Here is a MAP of the walking trails:  forest_campus_map

Austin Cary Public Art Project Announced

Dear SFRC and SA+AH Faculty, Staff, Students and Alumni,

The School of Art + Art History has been working closely with UF’s School of Forest Resources and Conservation to create a public art opportunity open to all SA+AH and SFRC faculty, staff, students, and alumni.

We are very pleased to announce a $35,000.00 public art competition. The SFRC is looking to commission a site specific artwork for their new Austin Cary Forest Learning Center. The selection committee may choose to select a single artist, or commission multiple artists for several commissioned projects. You may choose to apply as a single artist or as an artist collaborative team.

The selection will follow a standard public art process. This begins with the attached request for qualifications (RFQ) call to artists. This will be followed by a site visit/information sessions held at the Austin Cary Forest Learning Center. Applications are due on March 21st (no late applications will be accepted). A selection panel will meet to review all the submitted applications and then select up to six (6) finalists who will be invited to complete a site specific proposal. The selected finalists will each receive a $500.00 honorarium.

Please read the RFQ carefully and follow the directions exactly. www.arts.ufl.edu/downloads/austincaryart.pdf

The site visit/information session will be held on Monday, March 10th at 4:00pm and Thursday, March 13th at 4:00pm.  The Austin Cary Forest Learning Center is located at 10625 NE Waldo Road, Gainesville, FL 32609.

At this information session you will be able to see the identified sites, get more information and have your questions answered about the project.

I want to thank Dr. Tim White and UF’s School of Forest Resources and Conservation for their support of this exciting project.
